The Air Tree was originally designed by Urban Ecosystem for the Madrid Eco Boulevard Competition, which prompted designers to conceive of outdoor areas that “climatically transformed outdoor urban space”. The winning entry, a pavilion made of 100% recycled materials, is entirely self sufficient as it produces both oxygen and energy. The tree provides a social gathering space while acting as a mechanism to negate the urban heat island effect.
